Types of Reasons for Choosing a Candidate

Types of reasons for deciding which candidate to support:
1. Political Chances—Candidate who has a good chance of winning: middle of the road, etc.

2. Favored Demographic Category—Candidate is/is not from some category: men, whites, inexperienced, gay, a certain religion, young, old, etc.

3. Personality—Candidate is qualified, enthusiastic, wonderful, well-respected.

4. Verbal Presentation— Verbally presents well: public debate, speeches, tv appearances, ads, website.

5. Issue Based—Candidate is an advocate: children, women, underprivileged, or candidate supports/opposes a political action: Iraq, universal health, Kyoto Treaty, etc.

6. Principles—Candidate’s principles and theory of government.

Are these all the general types? Now, which of these would seem to be of the most importance in shaping the kind of leadership we need for a healthy, constructive society?
