Why Exactly Is Congress So Against HSAs?

Since health savings accounts have proven to work quite well in reducing costs and improving care, why are they so ignored as a policy option by the politicians? Ronald E. Bachman of the National Center for Policy Analysis points out that

"The proposed Senate health reform bill is designed to delay, deny, defeat and kill HSAs. It does not focus on improving health or health care. It is more about political power, centralizing federal control, growing government and expanding bureaucracies."

Immorality of Government

Government creates a destructive sense of entitlement, a point liberals find difficult to understand. Demanding that government force others to give oneself entitlements is caused by government giving the entitlement in the first place. Mark Steyn comments: on Greece and the path we’re on in the US:

"We hard-hearted, small-government guys are often damned as selfish types who care nothing for the general welfare. But, as the Greek protests make plain, nothing makes an individual more selfish than the socially equitable communitarianism of big government. Once a chap’s enjoying the fruits of government health care, government-paid vacation, government-funded early retirement, and all the rest, he couldn’t give a hoot about the general societal interest. He’s got his, and to hell with everyone else. People’s sense of entitlement endures long after the entitlement has ceased to make sense."
